Slowing Down for a Senior Dog
Senior dog sessions look different.
And that’s exactly the point.
Recently, I photographed repeat clients of mine with a sweet older pup here in Spring, Texas whose pace had softened. His joints needed extra care and while he was still up for adventures, he wasn’t mad about getting cuddles and pets from his humans.
His parents understood these things.
They Let Him Lead
They didn’t rush him.
There were no demands for commands or perfect attention.
Instead, they:
✧ Took frequent breaks
✧ Brought water and favorite snacks
✧ Allowed him to lie down whenever he wanted
✧ Celebrated the small moments
We worked with what he was willing to give.
Not what social media says dogs “should” give.
I’m always following a dogs’ lead at any session, but for senior dogs, this is even more important. Pushing through discomfort is never worth it.
Why This Matters
As dogs age, time feels different.
The gray muzzle.
The slower steps.
The way they lean into you a little longer.
Documenting this stage is sacred.
When sessions move at their speed:

The final gallery wasn’t about tricks or action shots.
It was about tenderness. And it was breathtaking.
